This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered a variety of topics. First, it explored modal auxiliary verbs and how usage may affect the meaning of a sentence. It clarified ways in which sentences could express obligation, possibility, permission, ability, advice, etc. I found it helpful to think about ways in which meaning could change based on the specific modal auxiliary verbs used. This unit also distinguished between passive voice and active voice and explained how voice can affect how meaning in a sentence comes across. Meaning could also be affected by the presence of commas in a sentence, and the unit explored the different ways in which relative clauses can convey essential or non-essential information. Finally, the unit covered different types of phrasal verbs. I found distinguishing between the types to be quite challenging, as I had to consider the role of the subjects, adverbs, and prepositions in a sentence.
