In Unit 5, I learned all about classroom management. This unit was particularly interesting because it discussed how everything from the arrangement of the classroom, to student grouping, to establishing rapport can impact student behavior and the overall dynamic of the classroom. I found the section on the advantages and disadvantages of teacher talk time (TTT) to be particularly useful. As a former French teacher I often found myself wondering if I was speaking too much and dominating the class. I loved reading about the tips to avoid unnecessary TTT and will definitely use these tips in my future ESL classroom. I also greatly appreciated the tips to responding to problem behavior at the end of the unit. When problems arise it can be difficult to know how to properly react and I found these tips to be an excellent reminder of how the teacher should react while always keeping their calm.
