This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit was about learning the tools needed to manage a class when teaching. I have learnt the different types of classroom arrangements and the advantages and disadvantages of each type of arrangement whether it be rows of desks, a semi circle or individual desks. I found the different methods of how to maintain discipline in the classroom beneficial as I they were all positive, proactive techniques. The video mentioned trying to use humour or non verbal cues to discipline as examples which I think will be very useful to me in a classroom as I think humour in a learning situation helps to put students at ease and creates a more fun and comfortable environment for them to learn. And that at times not saying anything has a bigger impact than saying something.
I will certainly be going back to this unit before teaching my first few classes as a refresher of what works best for managing a class.
