This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In unit 2, we are very briefly introduced to 4 different learning and developmental theories (maturationists, constructivists, environmentalists and cognitive develpmentalists) before going into a comparison about how people learn L1 and L2. We hear about mythologies of teaching different age groups (group 1 for 5-9 year old, group 2 for 9-13 year olds) based on what children within these age brackets usually like and dislike.
Furthermore, the unit looks into different learning environments and various roles a teacher might hold when dealing with different activities in the classroom.
The chapter on skills looks at the different skills students need to apply and should show when looking at their two productive and two receptive skills. We learn about the different levels of listening, speaking, reading and writing the students of the 2 age groups might show in order to rate their understanding.
