In this unit I learned a lot about the classroom and how the teacher's position, vocal output and even the layout of the students can have a big effect. It's important to find a balance between teacher talk time and student talk time, meaning that although the teacher will sometimes have to stand at the front of the class with all the student's attention focused on him/her, it's important that they incorporate different activities that allow for the students to communicate in English together in pairs or even in larger groups. The teacher should be aware of the student's ability level as it may be necessary to pair a weaker student with a stronger student. I also learned that it is imperative that the teacher is consistent in class with discipline and in line with the school's code of conduct; additionally the teacher should remain calm and shouting and losing ones temper rarely solve any issues.
