This unit focused on the receptive skills, reading and listening. I found the specialist skills that go a long with reading and listening quite interesting. Prediction, scanning, skimming, deducing from context, and trying to gain detailed information are all skills that I use everyday without thinking. Since my pre-existent knowledge of English language is greater than a non-native speaker it is easier for me to understand the contents of English newspaper articles and interviews. Even understanding all of the words of said newspaper articles and interviews a non-native speaker may come to a different conclusion about the content. We can aid our students in their understanding by exposing them to many different kinds of topics. Although it is important to learn the interests of our students so that we know what topics are appropriate for our classes and at the same time interesting for them.
