After reading this section I felt overwhelmed by the amount of information and the task that will lay before me when teaching pronunciation and phonology. Simple rules help to give me some sense of security when teaching this subject.
For example, most statements will rise in intonations and fall at the end, while most questioned will fall and then rise before the end.
When teaching the stressing of words is also very important because much of the meaning of a sentence is expressed in the stress of the words. This section showed very clearly how the sentence, \"he didn't mean to kick the dog\" can have many different meanings depending on how the words are stressed.
When learning English, using phonetic script can really help the students with the sounds of each of the words.
I am glad that I can refer back to this section. I am sure I will review it many times as I began my teaching career.
