This unit had two videos demonstrating an ESL lesson. In the first video, the teacher had difficulty conveying the concept for various reasons. The teacher did not present as warmly as in the second lesson, so the students were much less relaxed. This unease was compounded when the teacher did not effectively explain the concept of modal auxiliary verbs to the students. This lead to disinterest, boredom, and poor behavior on the part of the students. Much of this was changed for the second lesson, where the teacher was able to explain the concept much more clearly and easily to the students. It was a much warmer environment and the students performed much better as a result. This unit was great for stressing the importance of a teacher's demeanor. Additionally, it was useful to watch a teacher explain a concept in a creative way that helped the students understand without using their native language.
