This unit presents a broad spectrum of techniques that can be used in various ESL situations. The different theories/methods gives a bit of background as to how teaching has evolved and how it's not bound to a fixed method, but is rather interconnected and lead to the ESA method.
Event hough there are several guidelines/rules towards this teaching method the teacher is still left to fill in gaps to make the method their own.
The realistic examples made it easier to understand the different stages of the method. The tips for each phase also brought everything together.Unit 11: Teaching receptive skills
This unit focuses on the receptive skills- reading and listening, which are part of the basic skills in any language.
This unit is beneficial and very informative to me as a teacher for the following reasons:
It teaches how to create an integrated skill lessons in order to have or use a balanced approach in teaching.
Also . from this unit I got a clear explanation on the specialized skills such as predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information and deduction from content among others.
