In this lesson I learned about the advantages and disadvantages of using the course book in the classroom setting, I personally believe that utilizing both in the classroom creates a sense of balance and creativity. Furthermore, the course book provides the students with a tool they could use to assist them with assignments they may have difficulty understanding. I also learned the difference between authentic, and created materials. Authentic material would be vital to students especially when they have their own culture and it brings a sense of comfort to the students.This unit is a great refresher on using parts of speech and identifying the nature and structure of written/spoken English. Taking the time to read through and make sure the criteria is covered with great care allows for greater fluency when teaching students. The nature and structure of the content as I see it, reinforces what I have learned in the past.
Things I am getting up to speed with are gerunds, prepositions and conjunctions, I have had difficulty in defining this in language however to see a clear breakdown on how it can be conveyed in this unit is reassuring.
