This unit covered information regarding learners and teachers. Specifically, the unit focused on the characteristics of both learners and teachers in an academic setting that would best promote the learning experience. Additionally, the language levels of learners were explained, as well as the differences between younger and adult learners. Finally, the roles of the teacher within the classroom were discussed.
I learned that there are many levels to language fluency, which was outlined in great detail by the section that contained the Common European Framework. Additionally, and more importantly for me, Unit 1 described the many roles of the teacher and how to best serve a group of learners to ensure that their language-learning experience is a good one. I will certainly use the information that is provided in this unit so that my relationship with my future students can be nourishing and not stifling.
