This unit talks about the different type of tests an EFL/ESL student may take when studying English. When a student begins studying English they have to take a placement test to see which language level class they belong in and then they sometimes take a diagnostic test in the beginning of the class in order for the teacher to understand what level they are at and what they should focus on in class. In order to understand how much students are learning, a progress test is useful. There are also evaluations for students to complete in order to see what teaching methods work and what should be focused on in class. Classes often have their own exams throughout the year and at the end of the year to test the students. What are also important, however, are the external exams that students will likely take in order to get into universities or find work. These exams include the TOEFL and the Cambridge Assessment.
