This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The unit concentrated on teaching pronunciation and phonology. It covered various aspects such as intonation which is the variation in volume and pitch in a whole sentence. The unit also focused on stress and the rules regarding word stress, for example in a case where there is a 2 syllable noun, one has to stress on the first syllable while on the other hand if it's a 2 syllable verb one has to stress on the last syllable. The unit also focused on phonemic symbols and articulation with specific focus on the place of articulation. From this unit l learnt about the importance of teaching pronunciation and when to teach pronunciation. One of the outstanding area in this unit for me was articulation, l learnt about the place of articulation and how different sounds are formed in conjunction with a certain organ. For example the sound t is formed when the tip of the tongue is raised towards the alveolar ridge.
