In this unit we have focused on grammar: models, phrasal verbs and using the passive.
We have examined the use of models to describe degrees of certainty and obligation, as well as degree of politeness when asking for permission or making requests. We have also seen how tenses change the sentence.
For passive voice, tenses use is particularly important, as is determining the focus of the event encephalitis, what is most important in an active sentence? The agent within an active sentence is usually removed from the corresponding passive sentence.
We have learned of typical students errorsi and looked at typical activities to help students understand the use of passive voice
(e.g. general knowledge quizzes).
We have then looked at clauses and how these can be used to clarify meaning within a sentence.
Finally we have examined phrasal verbs and how these are often best taught to students as vocabulary items.
