This unit is based on the pronunciation of words in English language. Foreign as well as English teachers often lack confidence tackling this area since they are not well trained. As a result of this, most pronunciation tends to concentrate on individual sounds, which is not necessarily the most important part. The unit also explains phonology which is the study, science, analysis and the classification of physical properties of sounds. Emphasis here is on stress, rhythm and intonation. The unit further explains articulation, phonemic alphabet and symbols as vital areas in the pronunciation of words. Peer dictation, your own mouth, and visual aids are examples of teaching techniques here.
From this unit, I have learned when I can teach my learners pronunciation; it can be whole lesson or lesson slots. As an effective English teacher, I will now consider pronunciation as an integral part of my lessons.
