Speaking activities for students are based on both accuracy and fluency. The \"study phase\" focuses on accuracy, while the \"activate phase\" primarily focuses on fluency.
Writing on the other hand, concentrates on accuracy. Writing can be very complicated for English learners for a number of reasons. They will be faced with the challenges of a new alphabet system,
the use of homonyms, punctuation and different writing styles. This can create confusion for the student, and therefore these concepts must be presented in a methodical and purposeful manner.
In conclusion, it is very important that teachers allow adequate planning time for both speaking and
writing activities.
