In this unit we covered how to teach language structure, function, and vocabulary. One of the things that struck me was that they need to learn the mechanics of how a language works, like vocabulary to understand what others are saying, and then basic grammar that will allow them to construct and coherently understand others. The function of the language is important to teach relevance of when to use the grammar and vocabulary in under what circumstances. The quickness that the students learns is based on the familiarity of the native language to the studied language and the familiarity they have with what you are talking about. It was also interesting to learn that the the language vocabulary understood is larger than what the student's actively use. I think I will focus on vocabulary and grammar for the most part and then work on application. Application does nothing if they cannot apply it or understand it.
