This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the use of course books, the types of materials that are used within a course, and how course materials fall into two main categories: authentic and created. This unit explained how authentic materials are anything a native speaker would hear or read while created materials are ones that are designed by the teacher to either replace or add on to materials from the main course book. I believe that a combination of both is the best way to learn a new language. The use of created materials such as picture stories and gap fill activities, in addition to a course book, would establish a good foundation that would be expanded upon by the use of authentic materials. Without additional materials supplied by the teacher, the students would find it harder to understand and retain new vocabulary, while without the use of authentic materials, students would not get practical experience with the language.
