Unit 3 is about some of the main theories, methods, and techniques of teaching foreign languages. There are multiple approaches to teaching this subject, and the best way is use a variety of these approaches to cater to students' different learning styles as well as keeping students interested and engaged to prevent boredom. The main structure of a good lesson plan involves ESA - Engage, Study, and Activate. 'Engage' is meant as a warm up exercise to get students thinking and speaking in English. 'Study' is when a new language point is introduced and students work on learning this point and how it is constructed. 'Activate' is when students engage in activities that promote free communication with English where fluency rather than accuracy is emphasized. As long as students 'Engage' at the beginning of a lesson and 'Activate' at the end, any number or order of ESA phases can be implimented into a single class.
