Through the years, I believe teaching tenses can be the most difficult thing to do in a classroom. It requires lots of time and training. There are so many things to teach at once; pronunciation, spelling, sound endings, and finally changes in irregular verbs.
Another thing that I find complicated, is the different rules that apply to verbs in past tense along with the differences in third singular person. The use of the auxiliary DO or DOES in present simple, and then, the use of DID in simple past; becomes quite a difficult job to teach, as well as a complicated lesson for the students to learn.
Establishing the connection among the tenses and the usage of the tenses, might be a little difficult for ESL teachers. My advice is; we need to stay focused and know that only years of experience will help you master this part of the English grammar. This section requires a tremendous effort from the students too.
