I found Unit 6 to be less daunting than learning about the present tenses. It was refreshing to see the correlation between the past and the present tenses and was good to learn that some of the Activation Stage engagements can be used across both studies. I believe this to be a positive aspect, as in my experience, learners appreciate familiarity and repetition. The summary detailed at the end of the video helped explain clearly the differences between the four structures and I appreciated the key tips listed in the materials, for example, identifying time reference cues in the Past Continuous tense and looking out for words such as 'when/after' for the Past Perfect. Similarly, task 7 challenged me to remind myself of the differences between the Present Perfect and two of the past tenses. I can now understand the frustrations and confusion EFL/EAL learners may face when discussing the usage of these structures.
