This unit is about managing a class. It first stresses the importance of physical aspects of the teachers presentations such as eye contact, gesture and voice. These 3 can be adapted to convey different meaning in different circumstances. Another part is about organising the students : there can be whole-class, individual, pair or groups activities...each of them having qualities according the activity that will be carried out. Then we get a sum-up of different class organization, circle and horseshoe layouts being great as they create a more intimate atmosphere but it is not always possible due to the lack of space or the students being too numerous. Topics such as reducing time writing on the board and therefore reducing the time with teacher’s back to the class, individual attention, teacher versus student talking time, giving instruction, establishing rapport and maintaining discipline are also detailed.
