This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focused on the conditionals used in English, as well as the grammar that we use to report what other people have said. Beginning with a brief overview explaining the differences between the zero, first, second, and third conditionals in terms of grammar and meaning, the unit changes subjects and addresses the exceptionally tricky topic of reported or indirect speech, detailing the various changes that take place when we use this grammar.
The unit definitely made me consider carefully how I might teach difficult grammar points, such as reported speech. As the text said, because of the many changes that need to be made, there are plenty of places where students might make mistakes. Thus, it's important to teach this topic slowly, and carefully. Rather than teach it all in one lesson, these difficult grammar topics should be spaced out over several lessons, and reinforced with abundant practice exercises.
