I'm not going to lie--I was quite disappointed in myself after unit 4, when I was taken through the present tenses and got a little mixed up with the differences between perfect and perfect continuous. Though I don't know my score yet on this exam, I am feeling much better about the past forms because their names suddenly clicked with me. The continuous form is continuous because it is a state of being, thereby explaining why it is called the continuous form! The perfect form means you are in possession of some capacity--you have perfected the action well enough to enact it--and therefore will be using a form of the verb \"to have.\" Perfect continuous forms will require both, and in the order presented in the name. It makes so much more sense now, and I think I could accurately convey the rationale behind the uses in a way that would minimize errors in my students as well as help them correct their own mistakes.
