The content of this unit covered the basics of the roles within a classroom. This means discussing both sides- teacher and student. The ideal teacher has a presence in the classroom that is assertive, but not overwhelming. This means that they are constantly surveying their class, listening for errors, keeping the focus of the class, and assisting students when they get stuck. However, the teacher is not requiring the class to sit and be lectured, or being hyper critical. The unit then introduced the role of the student. A good student is motivated, confident in asking questions, confident in asking for help, and accepting of their own errors. The idea that a good teacher is able to cultivate and encourage these attributes ties together the role of the teacher an the role of the student. The unit then went on to lay out the language levels, and more specifically the way each level modifies the role of the teacher.
