This unit, and the other units focused on tenses, will be ones that I plan to study and practice vigorously. The present simple form is easy enough, but the others would be quite difficult to grasp as a student. For example, the phrase, \"I am believing in God,\" would seem perfectly correct as an English Language Learner, but it is one that would never be said by a native speaker. I need to know why this is an error (because it is more of a permanent situation as opposed to a current action or developing situation) and how to convey that to my students. I also need to make clear that despite \"have\" being past tense, it can be used in present tense, as shown in the \"perfect\" forms. Contrary to what one might think, and to the probable dismay of my students, present tense is much more than what is happening right now (\"I am eating\"), as it can communicate states of being before and after the time of speaking.
