This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Grammar, vocabulary, and function are the basis of teaching English. Grammar is described to be the trunk of English learning tree. It is important that students know the meaning, use, patterns, and differences between language that is spoken and language that is written. The most commonly used lesson plan organization is the boomerang and patchwork arrangement. The leaves to the tree is considered to be the vocabulary. How well students learn vocab is based off similarity to their own language, previous English knowledge, spelling and pronunciation, and appropriacy. Unlike grammar, there is no general consensus on where to start, thus teaching vocab allows for creativity to thrive. Finally, students must learn the function of the language to properly use them. When teaching function, boomerang and patchwork lesson plans tend to be more effective. Major emphasis is put on the activity stage for this type of lesson.
