This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
It's a bit confusing that the present tense re-emerges in our study of the future tense. English is very clearly confusing in this sense, especially because the present continuous is probably one of the easiest tense with which to express future intentions. Like with the past tense, really understanding how the future tense works will also depend upon students feeling comfortable with the context of the language. Not only do they have to understand a new tense, but they also have to understand the English way of expressing plans, which isn't necessarily intuitive. I won't be surprised if this is also a topic that requires care on the teachers side not to make more confusing than it already is. Looking ahead, I think a lesson plan with plenty of Activate portions will be critical to ensuring that the students are getting it, and to re-directing them towards a correct usage of the future tense before mistakes set in.
