I believe that each method for ESL teaching has its own merits as well as drawbacks. As teachers, we can use various methods in our lessons. For example, we can design a lessons based on ESA method. During Engage phase, we can use different games to have our students warm up and get ready for the lesson. After that, we can use different methods to teach different knowledge to different students. When we teach grammar to adults, definitely Grammar-translation method could be employed because of the contents as well as the age of the students. We can also ask questions after giving students particular examples and elicits sentences. During the Activate phase, role-play is one of the good options.
This unit is not only an introduction of different theories, methods and techniques. It can also inspire me to think how to organise my lessons with various methods and how to choose the most suitable methods for my students.
