Unit 9 provides an excellent introduction to lesson planning: methods to use and advantages for both students and teachers. The writing of lesson plans has important functions such as 1) an aid to planning (helps the teacher to decide how much information students can be expected to learn in a given time period for a lesson); 2) a working document (helps the teacher to keep on target); and 3) a record (of what a class has done and which meterials have been used). The unit also provides to the teacher a model 'Lesson plan' as well as a model 'Self evaluation form'.
Working through this unit helped me to appreciate that the investment in time and effort for the preparation of lesson plans is well worth its while. This is true since without a lesson plan a teacher will find difficulty to be prepared to deal with some of the language problems that can arise and, in consequence, the lesson may lack structure and direction.
