In this unit, I learned about the various teaching equipment used in the classroom and their functions. Such equipment includes whiteboards, overhead projectors, visual aids, CD players, cassette records, videos/DVDs, dictionaries, computers, and various online resources. These different pieces of equipment are all aids in one way or another, but all serve an essentially supplementary role and should not be entirely relied upon by the teacher. For instance, the whiteboard or blackboard is an excellent tool for relaying important information, but the teacher should never write everything down that he or she says, because this would result in too much time spent facing away from the students. Cassettes are excellent resources for listening exercises, but must be engaged with actively by the students and teacher to get the most out of them. Otherwise, the students could just stay home and listen to the cassettes themselves!
