Conditional statements are used often and usually unnoticed by native speakers. The rules regarding verb tenses in conditionals and reported speech are something done so naturally that explaining them to non-native speakers would be extremely difficult for any unprepared teacher. Not to mention that many of those rules aren't even learned, or have exceptions in informal speech. During the test, I had to catch my own \"poor\" colloquial English to follow the rules described in the unit, especially with the reported speech, where in my usual speaking I wouldn't backshift, I realized I was should be doing so. The most interesting part for me was, of course, the activate ideas that came with the conditionals. I want to use them immediately in the classroom and see how well the students pick it up. As an ESL critical reading and writing teacher, these sort of games would improve my students' creative writing skills immensely!
