Unit 3 attempts to provide a learning process and/or continuum model for guidance, instruction and application, thereafter, in which the student is first introduced to a new language in a less invasive and comfortable manner through initial encouragement and engagement in activities that utilize the target language with minimal expectation on context but rather through ability or age appropriate activities associated with the target language followed then by more direct, concrete, conceptual and contextually structured, instructional tasks designed to develop and improve student understanding of the target language. Finally, students are presented with opportunities in which to apply their newly adopted/learned language skills corresponding to their level(s) of progress. The unit also acknowledges the value and appropriate use of feedback and student correction (both teacher initiated as well as student self-correction).
