For Unit 15 on Evaluating and Testing, I learned of the general principals of testing in teaching English as a second language. Most importantly the types of test and the ways of going about evaluation and assessment for students or adults in regards to business, academia, or immigration. There are multiple test with multiple reasons for use, some for record keeping and requirement by the institution you are employed, some for analysis of current understanding, for placement in future courses or instruction, or to prepare someone for another external examination they may desire to take. There are also major test that are offered such as General Exams by Cambridge Assessment, which has five different subcategories of test that can be taken. There is also the test Skills For Life, and Business English Exams. A common theme among all test is that they cover the four basic skills of Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.
