This unit has taught me that there exists many varied roles a teacher can take on and that in any given lesson, it will likely be beneficial to take on several different roles at different times in order to inspire effective learning. Knowing which role to adopt at which time is key in delivering effective lessons and keeping high levels of student motivation.
This unit also taught me that good learners will possess certain traits such as a willingness to participate in oral lessons, ask questions and accept error corrections among others. Learners are generally classified as young learners or adult learners and levels of motivation will vary depending on age and individual circumstances. When teaching adult learners, they will struggle with issues of trying to adapt English to their native language while young learners may not do this. Young learners will generally have less attention span and life experience to draw on.
