Unit 1: Teachers and Learners
This unit discusses extremely important content for potential EFL teachers. It mentions what makes a good teacher, namely someone who enjoys teaching and the benefits it brings, however, they care even more about the learning, interest and motivation of their students more. When teaching any subject, teachers take on different roles in order to aid their students and their learning. Sometimes it is necessary to do a lot of talking and giving of instructions, while other times teachers can just observe or monitor the students for example. They need to know when and how to give suitable amounts of feedback and when to prompt lost a student. EFL students can come from different age groups, ability levels, nationalities and will have different reasons or motivations for learning English. It is therefore up to the teacher to teach accordingly to their skill level, interests and cultural differences.
