I have learnt that modal verbs or 'modals' are: can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to needn't and ought to. They can be used to express different ideas like: obligation, possibility/probability, permission/prohibition, ability and advice. They can also used to express differing degrees of formality. Modals do not change in form according to person.

Phrasal verbs consist of a verb plus one or two particles. A particle may be a preposition or an adverb, or an adverb plus a preposition. They operate as one item. There are 3 basic types of phrasal verbs:Type 1 Intransitive, Type 2 Transitive separable and Type 3 Transitive inseparable.
