There are receptive and productive skills, and receptive include reading and listening, means how we receive information. Both of them are equally important, but different students can find one of them more difficult to improve. For example, while reading the text is printed on the page and this allows to come back and look through it again and again until it becomes clear or at least find unknown words in dictionary.And for listening and understanding students can be unable to repeat sometime and check unfamiliar words.
So for practicing reading and listening skills teacher has to follow some rules.First of all texts or records which are going to be used should have topics interesting for all students. To motivate students and make them try to understand the text or speech it's better to give them new vocabulary in advance but not over do it. And of course, check the appropriateness of the text level for the particular group.
