This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit I have learnt the main characteristics of some teaching techniques (grammar-translation, PPP, CLT, CLL, etc). In addition to that, I got knowledge of ESA, which I think is an interesting method to organize the basic aspects of language learning: motivation, exposure and use. I haven’t heard of Jeremy Harmer before and after studying the unit, I can appreciate his contribution to teaching methodology: since the teacher should be very careful to plan the main stages of a class beforehand (engagement, study and activation), Harmer’s approach would be useful to raise awareness of how a well organized and meaningful class should look like.
Finally, I found interesting the point about the distinction between mistakes and errors. As a teacher, sometimes I am not fully concentrated on how different those concepts are, which may lead me to use the wrong strategy to overcome some difficulties I see on my students.
