This unit taught us about classroom management. It talked about how eye contact, gestures and our voice play a huge role in the classroom. I learned that all of these are crucial to our effectiveness in managing the classroom. Different ways of grouping students in the classroom was discussed, as well as the pros and cons of each way they may be grouped. I also learned some things to consider when arranging the seating in a classroom. This may include the age of the students, their nationalities and even the actual space available in the classroom. This unit also covered ways to establish rapport with the students. I learned some of the reasons that may cause behavioral issues in the classroom, including boredom, class size, peer pressure and family problems at home. Also discussed in this unit, were ways in which to prevent problem behavior, as well as how to deal with problem behavior when it occurs in the classroom.
