The focus of this unit was on teaching materials. In the classroom, the teacher has a variety of options for carrying out his or her lesson. These include using authentic materials, such as magazines or newspapers, creating materials such as crosswords, flashcards, or worksheets, or using a published textbook. According to the unit text, each choice has good and bad points that the teacher must be aware of when planning their lesson.
One thing that I've learned is that the most effective lessons are probably going to involve a variety of different materials. Textbooks can be good, but are not always a good fit for a class. In cases like these, the teacher must produce customized materials that address specific problems that students are having.
In order to make lessons engaging, fun, and effective, teachers absolutely must be flexible. This applies to various aspects of teaching, including the choice of classroom materials.
