This unit covers the different types of learners and best methods for teaching them. These groups include young learners, business learners, individuals, monolingual groups, multilingual groups, beginners, and other proficiency levels. With beginners, instructors will need to be careful not to try to cover too much too quickly and to continuously review previously covered material, among other considerations. With business learners, instructors must be aware of their different motivations for learning English and outside obligations so they can tailor lessons to the needs of the class writ large. With teaching individuals, instructors must insure that they are teaching all the necessary skills, even those the student may not find as necessary or relevant. With young learners, teachers must insure that they are actively engaging students on the individual level, praising their work, and keeping lessons varied and interesting.
