This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the issues of pronunciation and phonology, as well as to best teach these complicated, not to mention difficult, subject matters within the classroom. It began by giving a brief introduction and definition for both subject matters and then subsequently focusing on the intonation aspect of phonology, or in other words, how and why we vary in volume in pitch while speaking. During this explanation, the unit described the three main intonation patterns that we use in daily dialogue--the rise/fall pattern, fall/rise pattern, and finally the \"flat\" pattern. From there the unit gave various suggestions for teaching intonation, such as using nonsense phrases to have the students practice various attitudinal responses with.
Following all of this, the chapter discussed stress, the phonemic alphabet, as well as articulation and how the various sounds of English are articulated in regards to their physical properties.
