Two very different topics were covered in this unit. One component was the five main types of conditionals. It was stated that many students mix the first and second conditional, but there is room for confusion with each type. Some of the games offered to help teach students conditionals seem like they could be really fun in helping students understand and use the tense. For example, chain conditionals and complete the conditional. These games could encourage speaking practice as well. However, the nuclear bunker role play would need to be changed in a country like Japan for historical reasons. Perhaps it could be changed to a zombie apocalypse. Reported and direct speech was the second part of the unit. It was a little challenging as the changes made to sentences may seem very subtle to a native speaker. Having a student write a news article on some event going on may be a way to practice reported speech for an advanced class.
