English grammar is divided into basic units of meaning that convey the actors of a an event, the things acted upon, how they were acted upon, and what action took place. The actors are the nouns. They do not necessarily do things, however, they are definitely being if they are not doing. These states or actions that the nouns take are called verbs. These nouns can be described by adjectives which describe what they are like. Adverbs have similar functions for verbs, describing how the action or state of being took place. Those things which were acted upon were the objects of the sentences. For example, if I say \"She loves the dog,\" the dog is the object of that sentence because the dog is the one who is receiving the consequence of the action. Clauses or statements such as this may be combined using conjunctions such as and and but. Other useful types of words are prepositions which describe when and where actions take place.
