This unit gave me an idea of what the goals of a teacher should be when approaching learners of various ages, ,cultural backgrounds, and language levels. However, it also highlighted the importance of good learners and how individual differences must be accommodated effectively in the classroom environment. Because foreign language classes may differ drastically in nature from traditional classes in schools, it is important to consider developing close relationships with the students according to their interests and comfort levels. Age, cultural background, and individual personality may greatly impact the way a student learns. Teachers are often directed on how to teach and manage a class, but are rarely taught how to consider the learners’ needs -- establishing a balance of maintaining control over a class as well as the motivation of the students is essential for sparking passion for learning and teaching in the classroom.
