This section brought to my attention many different aspects of classroom management that I had never considered before. While eye contact is something that comes naturally to me, knowing when to let my students work independently and myself take a backseat position is something I've never been very good at. It was interesting to learn about the different conditions in which the teacher should relinquish control and make the classroom more of a community. Additionally, I knew quite a few of the benefits of group, individual, and pair work, but it was interesting to see that this course recommends a more hands-off approach during student work time. I also believe the sections on student discipline (that the teacher can often prevent the need for discipline purely by running a respectful classroom) and on limiting teacher talk time (something that I believe is not utilized enough in most language classrooms) will be particularly useful.
