This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Reading and listening are the two arms of receptive skills. They're both needed to grasp the English language as they are how we gather communication from others. Different levels of receptive skills are needed when interacting with the English language, including skimming, predictive, and reading fully engaged. When teaching English, we need to allow for all these different aspects to come into play.
Choosing a variety of topics of interest to the students makes for a more engaging class, as we hone their receptive skills through reading and writing. Choosing a variety of receptive skills to practice in both listening and reading gets them used to the written and oral aspects of the language, and choosing a variety of activities to Engage, Study, and Activate with pushes and validates their comprehension levels. When choosing comprehension tasks, choose between authentic or non-authentic texts based on their level of comprehension.
