The past tense is another main component of teaching English that I had been wanting ;) to learn more about. Much like the present tense unit taught before this one, Unit 6 lays out the rules and usages in a format that is clear and easy to reference. I appreciate that. As I believe I stated in my unit reflection for the present tense unit, questions about which tense is correct or most natural in a given sentence come up quite often in my work. And being put on the spot to decide in the moment, often in front of a classroom full of students, what tense is being used, etc. has been something I've loathed about teaching up to this point. But this unit really helped alleviate that negative emotion. I feel increasing confident in my abilities to identify and label tenses on the spot. The \"Common student mistakes/errors\" section is really helpful for imagining what sort of problems ESL learners may be having that I'm not even aware of.
