This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 12 continued with specifying the skills the students will be learning, moving onto productive skills. What I liked most was the assertion that writing is just as important as the other three skills (reading, listening, speaking) even if can be harder to make more interesting. The importance of writing- not just scribbling formulaic sentences repetitively, but actual creative writing- was really made clear in the unit. Speaking skills are difficult in an completely different way, where more students are motivated for improving their speaking, but it's harder for the students to become confident enough to actually speak aloud. Taking easy, fun, childhood games and changing them to suit the goals of the lessons is a commonly used idea in ESL. It was entertaining to see some games I hadn't thought of yet among the lists. It was also interesting and challenging to try to think of how to change the games in ways I hadn't done already.
